The Catabolic

biological type

The CATABOLIC type, one of the three primary biological body types in traditional medicine and refers to the bodies of individuals who have a tendency to break down tissues more easily than building them up, often leading to a leaner physique, low muscle mass and high energy expenditure. This body type is associated with higher metabolism and the tendency to lose muscle mass and weight quickly, even with minimal physical activity. To maintain health, catabolic types should focus on consuming nutrient-dense, high-calorie foods, ensure adequate rest, and avoid overexertion. They are prone to dryness, anxiety, weakness and irregularities in bodily functions. These individuals often benefit from grounding, nourishing, warmth, and a structured routine to maintain balance. It’s also quite common for individuals to exhibit characteristics of more than one body type, but there’s only one predominant one.

Your genetic makeup plays a significant role in determining body type. Diet, exercise, stress levels, and sleep all influence how your body expresses its natural tendencies. Your body type can change over time with certain lifestyle habits or adjustments, so it's important to reassess periodically.

Evaluate your physical build and compare it to the characteristics listed above. Notice how your body responds to food and exercise. Do you stay lean despite eating a lot? Do you struggle to gain muscle? Note if your shoulders and hips are relatively equal in width, with a slender waist. Have you always been slim, even when eating more or exercising less? Do you lose weight easily but find it hard to bulk up?
