Health isn’t just physical—it’s deeply intertwined with our mind and spirit. Throughout history, spirituality and religion have played a profound role in healing practices, influencing mental well-being, immune function, and overall resilience. Whether through prayer, meditation, or community support, faith-based practices can cultivate inner peace and promote holistic healing. True healing occurs when the mind, body, and spirit are in harmony. Whether through prayer, meditation, herbal remedies, or mindfulness practices, integrating spirituality into your wellness journey can lead to deeper healing and a greater sense of purpose.

You can exercise every day, you can have great hydration and emotional health, you can eat amazing, but a life without purpose just feels like something’s missing. It’s hard to feel truly alive, fulfilled, healthy, and happy on all levels if we don’t have that greater sense of purpose. A connection to purpose, faith, or spiritual practice fosters inner peace and resilience.

Attending to our spiritual health is highly important. I like to think of this as our purpose, having some sort of calling, having some sort of connection with our creator and a greater purpose in this life that gives our lives REAL meaning. It’s just not enough to keep yourself distracted living hedonisticly. That just doesn’t bring true happiness. Whether it’s helping the poor or helping others heal, there are many ways that purpose can manifest, but it has to give us a deeper sense of meaning and connection beyond ourselves. This is a critically important aspect of our health.

In Islam, the concept of the "evil eye" (known as al-‘ayn) refers to harm or misfortune caused by someone’s envy or jealousy, or even excessive admiration that carries harmful energy toward another person—often unintentionally. It is believed that when someone looks with envy or admiration, they can unintentionally or intentionally affect the well-being, success, or health of others.

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) confirmed its reality, stating:

“The evil eye is real, and if anything were to overtake the divine decree, it would be the evil eye.” (Sahih Muslim 2188)

The evil eye is a reality in Islamic tradition, but with strong faith, and spiritual discipline, we can protect ourselves from its effects. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) taught us practical ways to protect ourselves from harm, including the evil eye, jealousy, and negative energy. Prayer is one of the most powerful shields we have. Staying consistent with the five daily prayers brings us under Allah’s protection and keeps us spiritually connected. Reciting the Qur’an regularly, especially Surah Al-Baqarah, Ayat-ul-Kursi, and the last two surahs (Al-Falaq and An-Nas), offers protection and healing. Morning and evening supplications, or adhkar, are simple yet powerful tools to guard ourselves throughout the day. Making sincere du’a, asking Allah for protection from harm, is another way to build spiritual resilience.

Our physical space also matters. Keeping the home clean, filled with light, and free from negative influences helps create a peaceful environment. Playing or reciting Surah Al-Baqarah in the home repels negative energy, and avoiding images of living beings allows angels to enter. Children are especially sensitive to spiritual harm. The Prophet (ﷺ) used to recite over children for protection, and we’re encouraged to do the same. It's also important to be mindful about overexposing children on social media, and to say “MashaAllah” when sharing blessings to guard against the evil eye. Living a Sunnah-based lifestyle strengthens our spiritual foundation. Gratitude and charity also play a powerful role in protection. Saying “Alhamdulillah” often and giving sadaqah regularly helps purify our hearts and repel harm.

Spiritual protection isn’t just something we turn to in difficult times—it’s a way of life. By staying consistent in our worship and habits, we invite peace, divine protection, and strength into every part of our lives.
